Margaret Lureen Abernathy Coleman of Pulaski was born on March 25, 1938, in the
Cedar Grove area of Pulaski to Robert Lee Abernathy and Alberta Rebecca Holbert.

Margaret departed this life in the afternoon on June 23, 2025. Margaret began humbly
but grew to touch so many lives with her kindness, her food , and her spirit of hospitality.
Her family would later move to the Friendship Road property.

She attended the black school known as “Chicken Creek” and would often tell stories
about how she had to walk miles just to get to school.   Margaret was the only girl of six
boys born to parents who were sharecroppers. We are sure this shaped the work ethic
and the determination she possessed and passed on to her family.

Margaret professed her hope in Christ at an early age and became a dedicated member
of Friendship AME Church where she enjoyed serving as Sunday School Treasurer and
Church Treasurer. She was a Women’s Missionary Society Lifetime Member.

Now Friendship United Christian Center she served as Head Stewardess and Senior
Mother on the Mother’s Board where she continued to serve faithfully until her passing.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.  And would often host get-togethers at her
home.  Also, she was a phenomenal soul food cook. And anyone that knew Margaret,
knew she was always cooking something good on the stove (or in the stove, for that
matter) that she was going compel them to eat.  In fact, one cousin would later give her
the nickname: “Pots”.  She looked forward to and enjoyed assisting with her high school
class reunion celebrations. She served for many years as a member of the Court of
Calanthe Maceo No. 11 and VFW Women’s Auxiliary as well as many other civic
    organizations throughout the community.

Margaret spent many faithful years working at Marmont Gabriel, but retired early to care
    for her special needs daughter.

She leaves behind a daughter, Regina (Michael)Ashanti, two sons Jackson Coleman
Jr., and Earnest Lee Coleman. A bonus daughter/niece, Doris Abernathy and
stepdaughter, Gwen Gracey. Two Brothers: Leroy Abernathy and Thomas Alva
Abernathy. Five grandchildren:  Brittney (Brian)Greene, Amia Coleman, Antonio
Coleman, Brianna Coleman, Jada Coleman and step granddaughter, Mishi (Ollie)
McCullom. Three great grandchildren: Hadessah Greene, Heshem Greene and Naomi
Greene, Sister-in-law, Louise Cox, devoted Cousins Delores Young,
