David Jonathan Meagher, 70, of Ardmore, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, following complications of heart disease. Born on December 26, 1955, in Chattanooga, TN, David was the son of the late Charles Meagher and Frances “June” Coffman Meagher. David graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in political science and was a proud veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army. He had a long career as a professional gunsmith, first on Redstone Arsenal and then as a military contractor traveling to Army bases around the country and world. A devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, David drew inspiration from his devotion to St. Michael. He took a keen interest in Naval history, researching and reconstructing Civil War ship plans, which were published in historical books and magazines and even used to recreate a historical ship for a feature film. In addition to his lifelong love of history, David enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife, cared devotedly for many cherished animals, and was passionate about many hobbies, including marksmanship, model-building, and creative writing. Known for his joyful sense of humor, he could bring laughter to anyone around him.

David is survived by his daughter, Hayley (Nicholas) Whiteley of Winter Garden, FL; grandson, Hollis Whiteley; sisters Vicki Meagher of Albuquerque, NM, and Chareese Basila of Pulaski, TN; and many loving family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pulaski, TN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. George Panthananickal, CMI presiding. Burial will follow at Simpson Cemetery in Giles Co., TN.
