GILES COUNTY, Tenn. - Giles County Sheriff Joe Purvis officially announced Friday morning on WKSR that he will seek election to a full term in 2026.
Purvis was appointed by the Giles County Commission in November 2024 to complete the unexpired term of former Sheriff Kyle Helton, who resigned to accept a position with the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security. At the time of his appointment, Purvis pledged to continue modernizing the Sheriff’s Department and maintaining the high standards of service established under Helton’s leadership.
Since taking office, Purvis has focused on strengthening community relationships, supporting deputies with updated resources, and maintaining a visible presence at local events. His tenure has included outreach initiatives such as “Coffee with a Cop” and partnerships aimed at enhancing public safety and trust.
In announcing his candidacy for 2026, Purvis said his decision comes from a commitment to serving the people of Giles County and building on the progress made during his current term.
The Giles County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for enforcing state and local laws, overseeing the county jail, providing court security, and serving civil and criminal processes. Purvis emphasized that his campaign will highlight continued transparency and community engagement.
