GILES COUNTY, Tenn. - During Tuesday’s Giles County Board of Education meeting, two standout staff members were recognized for their exceptional service during the Summer Food Box Program.
Tasha Norris and Angela Hendrickson, both based at Southside Elementary, were honored by School Nutrition Supervisor Sunny Mitchell for their unwavering commitment to feeding local children throughout the summer.
The program, which distributed food boxes from four school sites—Minor Hill, Elkton, Richland Elementary, and Southside—provided a total of 7,841 boxes containing over 109,000 meals countywide. Southside alone accounted for more than half of that total, distributing 4,207 boxes, which equals 58,898 meals.
“Every school had an amazing crew, and we couldn’t have done this without the support of our staff and volunteers,” Mitchell said. “But Tasha and Angela truly went above and beyond. They carried the bulk of the work, often in extreme heat and under tough conditions, and they did it all with a smile.”
Their hard work and consistency even prompted another administrator to reach out and request formal recognition.
