This year's annual Campbellsville Heritage Festival, set for on Saturday, Oct. 4, will feature a Heritage Quilt Show celebrating both historic and modern quilting traditions. Organizers are inviting community members to share their quilts — and the stories behind them — for the event.
Quilts can be vintage or contemporary and participants are encouraged to include as much background information as possible, such as when it was made, the designer or pattern and any historical details.
“It would be great if a quilt has a connection to Campbellsville, whether the person who made it lived here in the past or lives here now,” said organizer Sherrie Yokley. “But even if there’s no direct tie to the community, we still want to display beautiful quilts with as much information as possible so people can learn about the pattern, the quiltmaker and any history behind it.”
The quilt display will be indoors at the Campbellsville First United Methodist Church Community Room, and a member of the Campbellsville Area Association will be present at all times to ensure the safety of the quilts and other artifacts in the Heritage Museum exhibits.
The quilt show is part of the Campbellsville Heritage Museum exhibits that Yokley and fellow organizer Anne Dickey help assemble each year for the festival. Dickey said the exhibit reflects the efforts of many people who share pieces of local history.
“This is not only to showcase quilts from history and the people who made them but also quiltmakers who are carrying on the tradition,” Dickey said. “The Heritage Museum exhibits are possible because so many have shared their stories, artifacts, photos, school annuals, genealogy and more.”
The deadline to register a quilt for the show is Sept. 20. Quilts should be dropped off at Campbellsville United Methodist Church Community Room on Oct. 1 or 2 between 1 and 7 p.m.
