GILES COUNTY, Tenn. - As animal shelters across the region continue to operate at full capacity, local leaders are urging the community to get involved in ways that go beyond adoption. While finding forever homes for dogs remains a top priority, shelters say there are numerous other ways residents can make a difference.
Fostering is one of the most effective ways to help, whether it’s for a weekend, overnight, or until the pet is adopted. Foster homes not only give animals a much-needed break from the shelter environment but also help them learn valuable social skills that make them more adoptable.
Shelters also welcome volunteers to assist with daily operations like walking dogs, cleaning, and helping at adoption events. Even simple acts like sharing social media posts can help speed up the adoption process and raise awareness about available pets.
For more information on how to get involved, contact your local shelter and ask about current volunteer and foster opportunities.
