GILES COUNTY, Tenn. — First National Bank is warning customers about scam text messages circulating that falsely claim to be from the bank’s fraud department.

According to bank officials, customers are receiving text messages reporting a fraudulent debit card charge often listing a Wal-Mart purchase for approximately $286. When customers respond “no,” scammers may then follow up with phone calls or emails requesting debit card numbers, PINs, passwords, or verification codes.

First National Bank emphasizes that it will never ask customers to provide debit card information, PIN numbers, passwords, or security codes via text, email, or phone.

The bank says legitimate fraud alerts only require customers to respond yes or no to confirm suspicious activity.

Customers who have questions or concerns about any communication they receive are encouraged to contact First National Bank directly at 866-363-2585. Customers may also disable their debit cards through the mobile banking app under Card Controls if they believe suspicious activity is occurring.

Bank officials remind customers that scam messages may vary in merchant names and dollar amounts and urge the public to remain cautious with all unsolicited messages.
