KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. are again offering awards of up to $5,000 to schools and non-profit organizations who offer or who want to start robotics programs.

Similar to the TVA STEM Award program, teachers and robotics team sponsors in public or private schools, grades K-12, can apply for an award up to $5,000. Nonprofit organizations serving youth ages 5-18 may also apply. Applicants must be in the TVA service area and receive electricity from a local power company served by TVA. A total of $700,000 will be awarded to successful applicants. The funds can be used to purchase robotics kits, tools and materials, and to pay entry fees for competitions. The award can also be used to begin a robotics program.

“Today's youth will become tomorrow's creators,” said TVA President and CEO Don Moul. “They will become the engineers and tradespeople who build communities, create jobs, and make our region an even better place to live. That’s why it’s important for TVA and BVI to invest in initiatives like robotics programs.”

Robotics fosters creativity, problem-solving and teamwork -- skills that are essential for success in the workforce of tomorrow. By introducing students to robotics at an early age, educators are helping students develop critical thinking skills vital to future employment opportunities.

“Robotics is one of the most tangible ways we can help students turn curiosity into ability,” said Kathy Black, president of BVI. “We’re thrilled to stand alongside TVA again this year by matching donations that give more teams the tools, mentorship, and experiences they need to succeed. This partnership strengthens our communities today and helps develop the next generation of problem-solvers who will power the valley’s workforce tomorrow.” The deadline to apply at tva.com/robotics is May 15. Successful applicants will be notified this summer.
