According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2025 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study concluded that while curtain airbags triggered during rollovers reduced the likelihood that occupants would be ejected, wearing a seatbelt remained the most influential factor in preventing ejection in rollover crashes between 2016 and 2021.
On average, every 54 minutes a passenger vehicle occupant not wearing a seat belt dies in a traffic crash.
Men make up the majority of those killed in traffic crashes with 53% of men and 40% of women dying without a seat belt in 2024.
