Salmonella Outbreak Spreading

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a salmonella outbreak has now expanded to 27 states.

Consumers reported eating at a Mexican-style restaurant before getting sick. The CDC said these reports include 
Chipotle and QDOBA from June 14th through July 14th. 

The CDC and FDA are investigating the outbreak, which now has a reported 345 cases, 36 of which led to hospitalizations. 

States effected include in our area Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. 
The number of people sickened with salmonella is "likely much higher" than currently reported because some people recover without 
knowing they had salmonella, and it can take up to four weeks to determine whether a person was part of the outbreak. 

Coast Citrus Distributors sent the suspected contaminated jalapenos, grown in Sinaloa, Mexico, to restaurants. The FDA and CDC 
are investigating whether these peppers went to grocery stores for purchase also.
