For many years the E911 Staff and Board of Directors have explored options to expand the existing E911 facility or construct a new emergency communications center. However, those efforts were
unsuccessful.
In early 2022, electricians determined that the building's electrical system had exceeded its design capacity, making expansion an urgent priority.
The issue was presented to the Board of Directors and again to the newly appointed board in November 2022. After evaluating multiple engineering proposals, the Board elected to
enlisted retired construction expert Robert Bee to review the
project.
Bee along with the E911 Staff, Board & others quickly redesigned the project, significantly reducing construction costs while maintaining the operational needs of the agency.
Following a competitive bidding process, Barnett Design Studio of Nashville was selected as the project's engineering and architectural firm at a cost of just over $70,000, approximately ten
percent of the fees projected by other firms that had reviewed the previous plans.
Construction bids were received earlier this year, and Brindley Construction Company submitted the lowest responsive bid of $1,252,000 for a 3,539-square-foot addition to the
existing facility, representing a construction cost of approximately $353 per square foot.
The total projected cost for the new facility will be approximately $1,597,771. The additional cost includes engineering fees, new generator, operator consoles, security equipment and
other items.
This new facility will allow Giles E911 to provide additional dispatch positions, upgraded emergency communications technology, backup power and resiliency, improved employee
workspaces, enhanced disaster response capabilities among many other factors.
Construction is expected to be completed by mid-December 2026.
