Norman “Sonny” Byron Nelson, age 75, died Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at his home in Pulaski.

He was born on September 29th, 1946 in Pulaski, TN to the late William A. Nelson and Gladys Nelson Gentry. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father Henry A. Gentry, sister Alfrey Jean Gorden, wife Teresa Stone Nelson, grandson whom he helped to rear Brandon Key, and brother William "Bill" Nelson.

Norman was a 1964 graduate of Bridgeforth High School; he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Dillard University and Master’s degree from Alabama A & M University. He was an Army Veteran and also a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church-Pulaski on Chapel Road. 

Survivors include his daughter Derreus Timmons, of Pulaski; granddaughters, Reagan and Jordan Timmons Gentry of Pulaski; brothers, Lawrence (Gwendolyn) Nelson of Columbia, MD, Gregory Gentry, of Pulaski; Stephen (Rose) Gentry, of Columbus, OH; and many other relatives and friends.  

Services will be Saturday, October 1st at the Greater Richland Creek Association Building (Old Bridgforth) visitation starting at 11am with services to follow at 12pm. Burial will be on Monday, October 3rd, 2022 at the Veterans Cemetery in Nashville, TN with full military honors.  

New Beginning Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Norman “Sonny” Byron Nelson.
