Former Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown appeared in court Monday after being indicted by the county’s grand jury for a second time last month.

In January, Brown was indicted for a second time on charges that include the accusation he used inmates for personal gain and for the benefit of another private citizen.

The sheriff and his attorneys will go before the court March 7 for the first hearing of the case in which he has previously heralded his innocence.

According to Circuit Court Judge Stella Hargrove , this case has been going on for a year and we have we not set a hearing.

The judge said motions previously filed on the case did not appear on Monday’s court docket.

The former sheriff’s legal counsel is the Lawrence County Law Firm Boston, Holt, Sockwell & Durham.

Capt. Adam Brewer, a deputy with sheriff’s department, who was also charged with one count of official misconduct is being represented by the same local firm.

Brewer attended court with the sheriff Monday and shared a continued stance of innocence.

Brown was first indicted in May 2018, on two counts of official misconduct and one count each of use of inmate labor for personal gain and tampering with evidence.
