Giles County School Board will consider a program designed to help local home school students during the monthly meeting Thursday afternoon at Richland Elementary.

According to Executive director of Tech Trep Academy,  the program works with home school students while allowing the students to be counted as part of the school district for funding and account ability.

School districts like Giles County have continued to lose student population over the past few years and funding from state government gives to local school districts for those students.

The director said for Giles County to create their own distance learning program the options would be to bring students back into the school district or hire a third party

Tech Trip Academy offers free-tuition and personalized distance learning for home school students. For the parents in charge of their home schooler's education, the academy offers a variety of resources and curriculum that meet the state standards.

School Director Phillip Wright recently told board members each home school student not counted in the Giles County School system costs the district approximately $7,000.
