A Tennessee lawmaker is proposing a bill that would allow firefighters and EMT's to carry a handgun while on duty.

A summary of the bill that was introduced allows firefighters and EMT to carry handguns while engaged in the performances  of official duties.

In order to carry a handgun while on duty, the bill would require all firefighters and emergency medical technicians to complete a firearm training program.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Joey Hensley,  Republican from Hohenwald.
