Tennessee Department of Transportation is monitoring an arctic cold front that is scheduled to bring accumulating snowfall to Giles County and surrounding areas.

The front is scheduled to arrive very late tonight (Monday) into the overnight hours of Tuesday.

According to local meteorologist,  Giles county will see scattered rain showers first and then a brief rain/snow mix before transitioning to all snow during the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Snow is expected to continue throughout the morning commute Tuesday.

Early estimates shows snowfall for Giles County in the 1 to 3 inch range and higher possible in the plateau.

Since the event will start as rain it will be difficult for TDOT workers to treat the roads, and with snow falling during the morning commute roads will likely be quite slick.

Once the snow stops, the arctic blast settles into the mid-state. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for at least 3 days.
