The Maury County Commission voted to turn down a request to rezone a parcel of land in Hampshire that would have brought a Dollar General store to the area.

The commission voted 12-9, dismissing the proposal to rezone 3.12 acres of property located near the intersection of Old State Road and Hampshire Pike from A-2 Rural Residential to C-2 General Commercial.

The decision was made after hearing concerns for traffic safety from those living near the project’s proposed location.

Developer Monte Turner said the store would bring an estimated weekly total of $1,500 in sales tax, with an average of 15 customers each hour.
