During the meeting of the Giles County Board of Commissioners, Bethany Shockney, executive director of the economic development commission spoke to the group.

She said there have been 15 inquiries for industrial projects in the county from companies looking at industrial sites. Many of these companies have made repeat visits. She said Giles County is in an excellent position to gain new industry, but there is a lot of competition for these companies.

She said the Timken plant has been sold to a developer, with the adjacent land as a possibility for development. There are two existing industries here that are also expected to expand.

Shockney said the Industrial Development Board is also working with a couple of landowners in the southern part of the county as potential sites for new industry, because of the construction of the Toyota Mazda Plant in Limestone County Alabama, she said the future looks good for new industry in the county.
