The Columbia Police Department investigated a shooting near Omega’s Market and Diner at the intersection of Woodland Street and Cemetery Street Wednesday morning.

According to media sources Captain Troy Potts said a patrol officer found the man in the middle of the street.

“At first we thought he was hit by a car,” Potts said.

The individual, who remained unidentified by the police, was transported by helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

No suspect has been identified and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
