The Giles County Extension Office has issued a press release that armyworms have been reported in south Giles County.

Producers need to scout hay fields as this pest can do great damage in a short time. Treatment should be considered when 3 to 4 larvae are found per square foot.

However producers who are planning to harvest another hay crop from an infected field should go ahead and harvest right away. There are some insecticides labeled for treatment of armyworms in pastures and hayfields.

Some of these insecticides have grazing and hay harvesting restrictions.  If you want to use an insecticide contact the Giles County Extension Office for more information at 363-3523.
