Four Alabama Department of Transportation employees were recognized “for their quick and selfless response” during a fiery tractor-trailer crash July 26th on I-65 in Limestone County.


Alabama Welcome Center staff members John McKinney, Michael Cain, Vickie McGee and Paul Pointer were recognized as Employees of the Quarter for Alabama Department of Transportation ’s North Region during a ceremony in Montgomery.


Transportation Director John Cooper said the staff members reacted without hesitation after a southbound tractor-trailer crashed into the median guardrail on I-65 near the welcome center at Ardmore.


McKinney and Cain used a fire extinguisher to break the passenger side window and pull the trapped driver from the cab. McGee and Pointer assisted with traffic control until law enforcement arrived.


McGee also expressed gratitude toward several unidentified passersby who stopped to assist during the incident.
