Two Fires in Giles County Today Posted on March 13, 2013
Two fires occurred today in Giles County.
The Pulaski Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 4 a.m. today. PFD Chief Don Collins said the doublewide mobile home at 100 Oak Drive in the Meadowbrook subdivision was filled with heavy smoke and flames were visible in one bedroom. The exact cause is being investigated.
“The family of four was lucky to have escaped,” Collins said, noting the home did not have any working fire alarms.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the bedroom where the fire began. The rental property is owned by Leonard Rogers and was occupied by Shanta Sanders.
The PFD was on the scene for an hour and damages are estimated at $15,000.
The Elkton Volunteer Fire Department members also fought a fire this morning.
EVFD Chief Payton Blade said the alarm at 10:15 a.m. had a familiar address — directly across from Elkton City Hall. Smoke was visible from the building, which is owned by William Morris and used to be a hair salon.
The report states the cause is believed to be from a glass in the window that caused a magnifying glass effect and ignited the floor.
No injuries were reported.
