Board Discusses Beer Ordinance Change Posted on March 05, 2013
The Pulaski Board of Mayor and Aldermen discussed the proposed beer ordinance change at Monday’s meeting.
Alderman Gentry expressed his wish that they had discussed changing the ordinance before Ritchie Rose came to them to request it and First Presbyterian Church voted on it. Had they done so they would be able to vote on this issue without being affected by outside sources.
Alderman Baddour expressed his desire to see no distance requirement for businesses that sell beer and said that he is considering offering an amendment to that effect. He named several local businesses that sell beer, such as Wal-Mart, and said that if the issue is really about keeping children away from beer, then parents would have to keep their children away from those businesses as well.
City Attorney Andy Hoover stated that if the ordinance is changed to 200 feet from front door to front door, that it was his preference to abolish the distance requirement so that it would prevent any odd planning that might occur.
The proposed ordinance change was tabled at the last meeting and although it is on the agenda for the next meeting, it can also be tabled again.
