Mayor and Aldermen Met Monday
Posted on March 05, 2013

The Pulaski Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in a work session Monday to discuss several items of business.

In addition to the proposed beer ordinance change, they also heard an argument to institute user fees at parks for out of town teams that reserve the parks. Because Pulaski parks are free to use, those teams frequently reserve the parks for games and tournaments, leaving the cost of cleaning and maintenance after they’ve used them to the city. If a fee is instituted, it would allow the parks to not have to use such a substantial part of their resources on out of town teams.

In other business, Giles Leadership asked the board if they can place the Veterans’ Memorial at Sharewood Park near the amphitheatre. The construction of the monument will be paid for by donation, at no cost to the city, but they have asked that it be placed there due to the location. Pamela Sue Keller has been chosen to design the memorial, which will be made of bronze.

A representative from Maplewood Cemetery gave the board information about money they had withdrawn from their income trust. Although it was reported that $50,000 had been withdrawn, it was actually $36,000 from the income trust that they are allowed to withdraw from. Because this is the first time in history that the income has been withdrawn, they were eligible to take out such a large amount. The money was withdrawn to help cover expenses due to burials being off by 20% last year.

The next meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will be noon on Tuesday, March 12, at city hall and will be open to the public.
