Family of Five Injured in Head-on Collision
Posted on March 02, 2013

An accident occurred last night on Highway 31 South near the Tarpley Shop Road.

An Alabama man, heading southbound, traveled left of center to avoid a car that was stopped and waiting to turn. In doing so, his Ford Explorer collided head on with a minivan that was heading northbound, carrying a family of five. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Dixon, the Ardmore family consists of two parents and children ages 6, 8, and 10, and no child restraint devices were found to have been in use. Two people were confirmed entrapped in the vehicle and Giles County Fire and Rescue Squad Extrication Team members used their specialty rescue tools to free them from the wreckage. Due to weather conditions, it was considered unsafe to use Life Flight, so four Giles County ambulances were used. The Alabama man was taken to Huntsville Hospital and the family was transported to Vanderbilt.

The condition of all involved is unknown at this time and the investigation is continuing as to the cause of the accident.
