WKSR: News
Friday is Read Across America Day
Posted on February 27, 2013

Students and teachers across Tennessee are joining millions of
their peers nationwide this week to celebrate the National Education Association’s 16th annual observance of Read Across America, which culminates on Friday – the birthday of the famed children’s author, Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

Read Across America Day, which falls on Dr. Seuss' birthday, calls on more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read. TEA invites you to join literacy advocates, youth and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat – the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat – for a flurry of reading excitement.

To join a Read Across America event at your local school, please contact your local education association or TEA.
