Budget Committee Met This Morning Posted on January 30, 2013
The Giles County Commission’s Budget Committee met this morning.
Clay McAllister addressed the committee on behalf of Judge Damron. McAllister is the instructor of the driving school which is in danger of running out of money. Damron is asking for $5000 to pay for a full time secretary so that the money he has been using to pay for a part-time secretary can go back to funding the driving school. The committee ultimately decided to schedule the judge to speak with them directly so that he can answer their questions.
Barry Hyatt, head of the Highway Department, addressed the committee. Due to unforeseen equipment problems, he has $98,000 in additional costs. The committee voted to transfer $98,164 from the general fund in order to cover these costs, but that decision has to pass the full commission at their next meeting in March.
The committee also approved the budget calendar, as they are required by law to do on or before February 1.
