Columbia Wreck Under Investigation
Posted on January 25, 2013

Maury County emergency crews and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating details of a car wreck that ended with gunshots fired last night.

According to the Maury County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 8 pm on Rock Springs Cemetery Road, near the Rock Springs Cemetery in Columbia.

The Maury County Fire Department responded to the wreck and found the vehicle unoccupied.

According to the Maury County Fire Department's Facebook page, bystanders saw two subjects go into the graveyard.

Police confirmed those two subjects were somehow involved in the wreck.

In an effort to search for the subjects, emergency crews were scanning the graveyard with a thermal imaging camera when gun shots rang out.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatcher told WKRN TV, "An overzealous homeowner held the subjects at gunpoint" until the police arrived.

The Maury County Sheriff's Office quickly responded to the scene and detained the two suspects.

Officials say the two men are in custody, charges are pending, and authorities are continuing the investigation.
