Bobcats Head Coach O'Connor Headed To Buckhorn Posted on January 23, 2013
Giles County football coach David O'Connor has accepted an offer to become Buckhorn's next coach, but he must be approved by the Alabama State Department of Education, Buckhorn Principal Todd Markham said yesterday.
The holdup is due to O'Connor not having an Alabama teaching certificate. O'Connor, a former Lee-Huntsville coach, has filed the necessary paperwork and will likely have to take the prospective teacher test and possibly the Praxis test.
Buckhorn hopes to have O'Connor coaching no later than spring break.
O'Connor enjoyed plenty of success at Giles County, going 75-17 in seven seasons and winning the Class 4A state championship in 2009. Last season, the Bobcats advanced to the 4A semifinals before losing to eventual champion Fulton.
