Maury County Mother Arrested
Posted on January 22, 2013

A Maury County mother is charged with child neglect after she repeatedly sent her elementary school aged child to school without a coat and in clothing too large for the child.

The arrest of Catherine Pierce came after numerous attempts by teachers and the school's SRO to help the child.

"The school has made numerous efforts to help the child," Lt. Andy Jackson said. "What the mom has forced us to do is write a warrant on her, arresting her and sending her to court to let the judge deal with her."

The child's person hygiene also was a reoccurring problem.

Investigators reported the Department of Children's Services was notified multiple times about the Pierce case.

DCS was contacted at least twice, the SRO made the contact, and it didn’t seem to do much to remedy the problem.

However, officials with DCS stated contrary to what investigators said, the agency has had previous involvement with the family.

Catherine Pierce has since been released on bond.

DCS said they are working with law enforcement and as of this newscast, don’t have custody of the child.
