SRO Meeting Postponed In Athens
Posted on January 18, 2013

A work session of the Limestone County Board of Education set for last night to discuss placing school resource officers in elementary schools was postponed due to the weather. No new date and time have been set.

Superintendent Tom Sisk said he was going to propose a plan that would allow the county to have officers at each of 13 county schools, including six feeder schools. Currently, SROs are on duty each school day at Limestone County's six high schools, Ardmore, East Limestone, Elkmont, Clements, Tanner and West Limestone as well as at Limestone Career Technical Center.

Three of the schools, Elkmont, Tanner and West Limestone are kindergarten through 12th grade schools so the elementary students are protected by the SRO on duty for the high schools.

The new plan would look at putting retired police officers on duty at the county's six feeder schools: Cedar Hill Elementary in Ardmore, Blue Springs Elementary in Clements, Creekside Elementary in East Limestone, Johnson Elementary in Ardmore, Owens Elementary in West Limestone and Piney Chapel Elementary in Elkmont.

The cost would be about $250,000.
