Committee Votes to Use Hotel-Motel Tax on County Buildings Posted on January 11, 2013
Changing wording on an ordinance to allow using county hotel-motel tax revenues for making repairs to all county buildings was recommended by the Giles County Budget Committee Thursday.
Language in the ordinance restricts use of revenues from the tax to repairs at the courthouse and courthouse annex.
At least 14 commissioners need to approve the change, which will be in a private act, which the state legislature will be asked to approve. Then the measure will come back to the county commission for another approval.
State Rep. Barry Doss, whose district includes Giles County, has asked to speak at the county commission on January 22. He would take the request, if it passes the county commission with enough votes, to the state legislature.
