Last Chance For Fired Muscle Shoals Officer
Posted on January 09, 2013

The fired Muscle Shoals police officer has one last chance to get his job back.

Greg Scoggins was terminated after investigators say he shot a deer, while on duty.

Attorneys for Scoggins filed an appeal to the Civil Service Board.

Scoggins’ lawyers also sent a letter to the panel, accusing other police department employees of misconduct, without any repercussions.

According to the letter, Scoggins he is just one of several officers on the Muscle Shoals Police Department who violated the department’s policy for good conduct while on duty.

According to Scoggins’ attorney, Johnnie Franks, the city wants to make an example out of Scoggins, however the precedent has already been set.

“Not one of those officer were reprimanded, given administrative leave, not to mention they were not terminated,” said Franks.

In a letter to the Civil Service Board, Scoggins’ lawyers outline five different occasions they say raise red flags, in regards to behavior and the subsequent punishment.

Now the Civil Service Board will make the final decision whether Scoggins will put on his uniform again, as an officer of Muscle Shoals.
