E-911 will Dispatch Ambulance Service, Local ECB Accused of Noncompliance Posted on December 29, 2012
At their final meeting of the year, the Giles County Emergency Communications Board decided that E-911 will begin dispatching the Ambulance service in mid-January. If needed, E-911 Director Mike Goode may also hire additional employees in order to handle the increased workload.
County Attorney Lucy Henson gave details of her findings based on a letter she received from Curtis Sutton, General Counsel of the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board. In that letter, Sutton accused the local ECB of noncompliance with state regulations. Henson and local ECB members, however, question if Sutton and the state ECB were aware the local board was created by public vote referendum. In addition, there is also the possibility that the local EDC laws were created before that state board was even established. The board agreed that attorneys will continue to investigate these allegations.
In other news, the board approved a software purchase and their audit was approved. The only finding reported was “segregation of duties,” which Sheriff Kyle Helton and others said is a common finding in small departments due to smaller staff size.
