Commission to Elect New District 5 Commisioner

Although this Friday, December 14, is the deadline to let the County Executive’s Office know that anyone is interested in running for the vacant District 5 County Commission seat, interested applicants may also request that they be nominated at next week’s meeting. That special called meeting of the Giles County Commission will be held Wednesday, December 19, at the courthouse. According to County Executive Janet Vanzant, the deadline gives commissioners time to think about who they will vote for prior to the meeting.
Anyone interested in running for this position should be a resident of the Fifth District and be a qualified voter according to state law. Whoever is chosen by the commissioners will be sworn in and serve until August 2014, the remainder of outgoing Commissioner Bill Holt’s term. They will also join Connie Powell and Tommy Pollard as representatives of the Fifth District.
