Columbia Boy Rescued From Train Car Posted on December 12, 2012
Columbia firefighters rescued a 12-year-old boy from the bottom of an empty train car, according to a fire official.
Deputy Fire Chief Steve Cross said the department received a report last Thursday that a child had fallen into a Tennessee Southern Railroad car at the Galloway Street rail crossing. “It was one of those calls that don’t happen everyday,” Cross said.
“A family member had witnessed the child falling in,” Cross explained. “When units arrived they found it was an empty coal car that had an open air top. The child wasn’t complaining of any injuries, firefighters didn’t find any, and basically they assisted him out of the car using a ground ladder.
The railroad’s safety official was notified of the incident, immediately.
