Athens Man Overdoses After Indictment
Posted on December 10, 2012

Limestone County officials say a man out of jail on bond took an overdose of pills after learning he had been indicted for capital murder.

Sheriff Mike Blakely said 52-year-old Joel Moyers was living with his mother in Cullman when he learned about the indictment Friday and took the overdose. The indictment would have caused his bond to be revoked. The sheriff said Moyers is being treated at a Cullman hospital.

Moyers was charged in the Sept. 29 shooting death of 26-year-old Brandon Hydrick. Hyrdrick and his brother were looking for a friend's campsite at 3 am when they took a wrong turn and ended up near Moyers' mobile home in rural Limestone County. Moyers told investigators he fired a warning shot because the men in the truck were acting suspiciously.
