Alabama Shakes Nominated For Three Grammys
Posted on December 07, 2012

In the past year the Alabama Shakes have gone from playing bar gigs to opening for Neil Young to being one of the biggest buzz bands of 2012.

Tuesday night the band was nominated for three Grammy Awards.

The Athens band comprised of Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, Zac Cockrell, Steve Johnson and Ben Tanner received a nomination for Best New Artist along with Hunter Hayes, the Lumineers and Frank Ocean. The band was also nominated for Best Rock Performance for their hit "Hold On." They're joined by some pretty big names in that category. "Lonely Boy" by the Black Keys; "Charlie Brown" by Coldplay; "I Will Wait" by Mumford & Sons; and "We Take Care Of Our Own" by “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen.

Additionally, the band's 2012 album "Boys & Girls" was nominated for Best Recording Package for art direction by Brett Kilroe. The Grammys will be presented February 10th and televisied on CBS.

The band's still showing love to those who supported them from the early bar gig days. Alabama Shakes recently surprised a crowd at Egan's in Tuscaloosa with a performance.

The band will kick off a headlining tour in March 2013.
