Athens Detour Today, Traffic Signals Changing Also

Athens City officials are warning motorists to take an alternate route today (Thursday) as a portion of Lucas Ferry Road is closed.
Lucas Ferry Road will closed from Washington to West Hobbs streets from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as crews repair a drainage pipe.
In addition, motorists should use caution at three intersections where traffic signals will be phased out beginning Monday, said Athens City Spokeswoman Holly Hollman.
On Monday, signals at three intersections will be turned off to be replaced with stop signs, which have already been erected, Hollman said. Members of Athens City Council approved the changes last month.
Hollman said existing traffic signals will be covered at:
• Pryor and Sanders streets;
• Fifth Avenue and Sanders Street
• Bryan and Madison streets.
