Hurd Sets Two Records As Beech Tops Columbia Posted on December 03, 2012
Jalen Hurd rushed for 394 yards on 34 carries with seven touchdowns to lead Beech to a 56-35 win over Columbia Central in the Tennessee Class 5A state championship game Friday.
In doing so, Hurd set a state record for rushing yards in a season and points in a season.
Just a junior, Hurd managed to set the record despite missing one game and seeing limited playing time in two others due to a mid-season shoulder injury.
For the season, Hurd has 3,357 yards, breaking the old record of 3,068 set last year by Dy'Shawn Mobley of Powell.
Hurd's 42-point effort against Columbia Central gives him 294 points for the season, breaking the old mark of 290 by Kelcey Williams of Humboldt in 1995.
Hurd's seven touchdowns also set a championship game record for rushing touchdowns.
Beech finishes the season with a record of 15-0.
