Fulton Coach Praises Giles County's Cobb
Posted on November 23, 2012

The bus drive to Pulaski will be a lengthy one today for the Fulton High football team.

Giles County quarterback Al Cobb could make the trip back even longer.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior quarterback has completed 76 percent of his 228 passes for 2,688 yards, 32 touchdowns, and two interceptions.

And he leads Giles County (13-0) in rushing with 20 touchdowns and 891 yards on 125 carries.

Containing the Class AA Mr. Football finalist is Objective Number 1 for the Falcons (11-2) in the Class 4A semifinal.

"Al Cobb is as legit as they come," Fulton coach Rob Black said this week. "He makes throws that most high school quarterbacks can't make. He has total control of their offense."

Fulton must play disciplined defense against the dual-threat QB if the Falcons want to return to the state title game for the first time since 2007, Black said. And, Fulton must continue to disguise its defensive coverages well.

"(Cobb) knows what he's looking for and what he's getting. And he makes really good decisions," said Black. "We do some disguising. We've done some all year long.

"But we'll probably have to throw in a few more coverages this week, because they run every formation known to man. If you can draw something up that's legal, they've probably been in it."
