It's Official, Martin Methodist Joins The SSAC
Posted on November 16, 2012

After spending the last 16 years as a charter member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference, Martin Methodist College was officially accepted as a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference Thursday afternoon. Martin Methodist, which announced its intention to apply for membership in the Southern States Athletic Conference at a press conference last month, was approved unanimously by the league's Council of Presidents and Council of Athletic Directors.

Fellow TranSouth members Bethel (Tenn.) University and Blue Mountain (Miss.) College were also accepted into the league Thursday. Due to the dissolution of the TranSouth at the end of this academic year, all three schools will be eligible to begin Southern States Athletic Conference competition beginning in the Fall of 2013.

"It is indeed a pleasure to welcome these three fine institutions into the Southern Sates Athletic Conference of the NAIA," Dr. Mark Foley, President of the Board of Southern States Athletic Conference Presidents said in a statement. "That which has been a premier athletic conference in the nation is made even stronger as we continue to focus upon the development of character, scholarship, and performance in our student athletes."

Southern States Commissioner Dr. Kurt Patberg also expressed excitement about the addition of Martin Methodist to the Southern States Athletic Conference .

"The decision to add the three to the Southern States Athletic Conference comes at a time the conference is going through some shifts in membership. We strive to keep this conference as one of the premier NAIA conferences in the country and the addition of these three schools contributes to meeting those goals. These three institutions directly align with our goals."
