Columbia Deer Hunter Dies After Tree-Stand Fall
Posted on November 14, 2012

Williamson County authorities say a hunter has been killed in a fall from a deer stand.

The sheriff's office told WKRN-TV Tuesday that the death of 49-year-old Kerry Seiber of Columbia was accidental. Seiber's family began looking for him when he didn't return Saturday from a hunting trip to Williamson County.

His body was found below a homemade tree stand that sits 23 feet off the ground. His gun was hanging on a hook in the stand.

Doug Markham with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency said tree stands are a leading cause of serious injuries or deaths to hunters. The agency recommends using a safety harness in the stands.

The conventional gun deer hunting season starts Saturday in Tennessee.
