Extension Service Has Busy October

2012 Master Beef Producer Class - Registration is now taking place for the
Tennessee Master Beef Producer Class which be offered this fall for local beef
producers each Tuesday and Thursday in October. The cost is $150 per producer but
beef producers with their BQA and farm premise ID will receive a $100 scholarship
provided by The Tennessee Department of Agriculture. A total of nine class sessions
will take place in Pulaski, Lawrenceburg, Columbia and one in Spring Hill.

The program is an in depth class on all aspects of beef production including
nutrition, health care, marketing, management, forage production, genetics, and much

Bull Soundness Evaluation Clinic- The Giles County Cattleman's Association in
conjunction with Pulaski Veterinarian Clinic, UT Extension and Boehringer Ingelheim
is hosting Bull Soundness Evaluation (BSE) exams at the Pulaski Veterinarian Clinic
now through September 30 during normal clinic hours. The cost for each exam is $50
per bull for members of the Giles County Cattleman's Association. That is a savings
of $30 off of the normal exam cost.
All BSE exams should be scheduled through the Pulaski Veterinarian clinic at
363-7575. Any non-members can take advantage of that rate if they join the county
association. The Pulaski Veterinarian Clinic will have association applications on
site. Dues are $40 which includes the Tennessee Cattle Business magazine, benefits
associated with the state association, invitation to the county annual meeting and
several meetings and field days throughout the year.


Giles County Cattleman's Association Fall Meeting - The Fall meeting of the Giles
County Cattleman's Association will be held September 25th at 5 pm at Corner Pit
BBQ near Bryson. The Corner Pit BBQ is located right off of I65 just north of
Elkton. The restaurant is owned and operated by Bill and Kristen Pfeiffer who also
raise commercial and angus beef cattle. The program will include information on
marketing, bull soundness evaluations, the Tennessee Valley Elite Heifer sale and
more. Dr. Emmit Rawls, UT Extension, is the scheduled speaker. Please call
363-3523 by September 24th to make a reservation.



Tennessee Valley Elite Heifer Sale - The 3rd annual Tennessee Valley Elite Heifer
Sale will take place on Saturday, October 6, at 1:00 pm at the Giles Agri-park.
Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Approximately 40 bred heifers and 15 open heifers
will be offered for sale. All cattle will be on the grounds by 9:00 am for viewing.
