WKSR: News
School Board Work Session Draws Standing Room Only Crowd
Posted on July 18, 2012

It was a standing room only crowd at last (Tuesday) night's work session
meeting of the Giles County Board of Education. Giles County Director Of
Schools Tee Jackson is praising the work of the school board. Jackson
said in a note to WKSR that he quote, "applauds the good efforts of the
school board. He said they, quote, "have a very difficult and often
thankless job." At last night's meeting, Jackson was questioned
concerning the numerous system lay-offs and received criticism from an
individual in the crowd and from some board members. The meeting was
adjourned abruptly when an individual, in Jackson's words, "blurted out an
accusation toward a board member." Before adjouring, the board heard a
report from Special Education Supervisor Dr. Pam Odgden and reviewed a
proposed school board policy. The school budget was approved on a vote
of 5-1 by the Giles County Commission's School Committee on Monday night.
The budget proposal now goes to the Commission's Budget Committee for
review.
