Giles Fire Marshall Statement On Ban On Open Air Burning
Posted on July 04, 2012

Giles County Fire Marshal Barry Whitt wants to clarify the ban on open air burning and use of fireworks. First, backyard grilling IS permitted as long as the cooking fire is self-contained with a cover. The burn ban as recommended by the County Fire Marshal, County Executive and County Commissioners includes all open air burning, such as natural debris like brush and campfires. ALL fireworks are banned. The only exception is the Public Display at the Pulaski Recreation Center. Anyone who chooses to violate the open air or fireworks ban may be charged with reckless burning, a Class A misdemeanor, which can carry a $2,500 fine and/or 11 months, 29 days in jail.
