Local Jobless Rate Up Slightly In May

Giles County’s jobless rate has improved in the past year but increased
slightly in the last month. According to figures released by the state,
the local unemployment rate was 8.9 percent, down from 10.8 percent a
year ago, but up three tenths of a percent over the prior month. Out of a
labor force of 13,620, 12,410 Giles Countians had jobs during May. The
statewide rate is 7.9 percent the national rate is 8.2 percent.
