WKSR:
Giles Co. Now Wild Turkey Hunting Capitol Of TN
Posted on June 28, 2009

State Representative Eddie Bass prepared a resolution proclaiming Giles County to be the “Wild Turkey Hunting Capitol of Tennessee.” Governor Phil Bredesen signed the resolution Thursday.

For the past eight years, Giles County has been host to the annual TN Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt” and “The Gobbler’s Gala.” The Hunt conducted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency with the cooperation of County and City officials of Giles County/Pulaski benefits sportsmen/women, and wildlife preservation. A portion of the proceeds benefits local Scholastic Clay Target Program teams in the 5 county area including Giles, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, and Maury Counties, and will help establish public shooting ranges in Southern Middle Tennessee.

The TWRA, established in 1949, now consists of more than 600 professionals dedicated to the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of Tennessee's fish and wildlife for the enjoyment of all Tennesseans and our visitors.

For more information on the turkey hunt, contact Tim Turner at the Giles County Tourism office at 363-3789.
